- My role was the manager. I was in charge of what all of our roles were and how we stayed on task. It was fun working together we all were on task except for one, but we got through it. Everyone knew what they were supposed to do, and we got everything done especially in a small amount of time.
- My role in the team was to be the designer, I was responsible for making the logo which was pretty exciting. I had some struggle in the beginning because I was confused about how to customize the logo. I picked up some images off from Google and I messed around with them on Google Drawing. Everyone loved the logo, it brought so much personality to the app. I also helped around on designing the app, and had a great time collaborating with the group.
What did I think about wearable technology before, and what did do I think about it now? Well, to be honest I never really heard of wearable technology, and when I did I wasn’t really interested because I barely wear jackets anyway so it would be totally pointless. Wearable tech to me wasn’t an interest I had or wanted to learn more about it until Isaias went more into depth with how it works, and what it can represent. Wearable tech to me now means that you can self-brand yourself without using words. You can wear a video that means something totally important to you or even pictures of yourself! You’ll get attention when you’re not even trying to receive it. That’s really good for people who are attention seekers also. I like the idea of wearable technology now, I think it can help out a lot with people knowing who you are, and also maybe letting you meet new people.
In this clinic we learned about SEO. SEO means search engine optimization. SEO leads to higher ranking for your website which would lead to more clientele. Having a lot of keywords is also good for your website just incase someone searches up a specific word the website can pop up. I liked this clinic a lot because while making a website I can use keywords that people usually search up.
Social Media Clinic
This clinic was about how social media is very effective for your business. Since people are always on social networks they would know every little thing about the business, what it is, sells, etc. We were talked to by Darren who said he spends 4 hours a day on social media scrolling through hashtags. Personally, that’s a lot but that’s how you gain clientele. I liked the clinic because I’m on social networks so it would be easy for me to know about certain things that’s going on.

Hi, my name is Geramani Martin and I am in the Hack the Hood program at the Ryse center. I was originally told about this program from the ITA academy main instructor, Ms. Peggy, at Kennedy High School. She asked me did I have anything to do this summer, when I answered no she asked did I want to attend this program. Honestly, I was only going to attend it because I was told you receive $900 and a laptop after you complete the program. After that I was instantly ready to start!
The program started July 13th at 10 a.m. I was here at least 10 minutes before. We got in the classroom and we did our icebreaker, made rules, and was told the basics about the program. Hack the Hood is a program for youth that helps you gain technical skills that you will need for the real work field. We help build websites for small businesses, and we’ve recently learned about micro-aggression, public speaking, social entrepreneurship, and code switching. Before we talked about those subjects I knew nothing about them. After we touched down on them I feel like a pro. This program so far has really been amazing, and gave me more knowledge in the past three days than if I was at school for two weeks. I can honestly say that I’m not in this program just for the money anymore. By the time I leave the 6 week program I will have a lot of knowledge about not only technology, but learning more about myself.
If I could wear any video in the world it would be a music video. The song name is “Pretty Girl Rock” by Keri Hilson. I would wear that video because for one, I love Keri Hilson. She is like my celebrity crush! That song by her just represents the prettiness of her and other women that she’s impersonating in it. The song just represents how I see myself. The video emphasizes the beauty in woman. It also shows how much she admire these women because she is reenacting their music videos. If i had to to make a video, and people wore them it would feature the beauty in all people. I personally think everyone has their own style, look, etc. Why not include stuff in the video of the beauty in all kinds of people. A little boost of self-confidence is what I would call it. Just so people can get reminded on how beautiful they are.
It was my first time going too Pandora and my experience there was pretty cool. I like how the guy, I honestly forgot his name, gave a lot of information about Pandora. I asked the question on how did they come up with the name Pandora, and he said his the founder’s wife just threw in how she liked the name Pandora. It didn’t really mean anything, but the name just sounded catchy. I also liked the earbuds they gave us because I have a tendency to break earphones fast, and to know I have some backup ones is amazing. The room he gave the presentation in was very comforting, and it was all nice and very professional looking. I would like to visit there again.
My favorite apps on my phone would be the music player app and Youtube. I really love to listen to music and to know that you have your own built in music player or something where you can download music from is amazing! Youtube is a reliable source when you don’t have any downloaded music on your phone. Sometimes, depending on how your service is it may be slow, but it’ll eventually play. Plus, you can search up any song and they’ll have it. It also has movies on Youtube so you basically have an on-the-go movie theater.
The music player app is also one of my favorites because all your downloaded music is on it. You wouldn’t need Youtube if you have your own music. It’s faster and it adds on to your playlist on Youtube. Music really calms my nerves, and to know i have several reliable sources it makes me happy. Another good thing about them is that if you have earphones you can just tune out the world, and be in your own little word. You know how people say, “Chipotle is life!” well “Music is really life!”. Seriously.
These two apps are really the only apps i use the most on my phone. When I have nothing to do all i do is listen to music. And when Youtube is unavailable for any odd reason I can rely on my music player. Not only is these apps useful for boredom, but they can also help with various situations such as; anger, sleeping, and parties. Downloading any song you want, plus having Youtube songs for backup doesn’t get any better! I’m pretty sure a lot of people would agree with me too.
We learned about micro-aggression in module 7 during the first week of the boot camp. Micro-aggression is like an unintended discrimination joke. Some people say things to others that actually hurts, but to them it wasn’t intentional. I liked this module the most because I’ve experienced micro-aggression, and I felt some type of way about it. For instance; someone told me, “You don’t sound like a black girl on the phone, you sound white.” I didn’t really know how to respond to that because it was hella stupid. Most people don’t realize that micro-aggression is insulting. Not only to that person, but to that specific race, gender, and sexual orientation. Sometimes it’s funny, but other times it’s totally pointless, and it can cause people to get their ass beat.
